Here we have a lovely resort style pattern collection from the June 2013 issue of burda style magazine. The styles are all loose fitting and great for destination travels because of their layering capability and fabric choices. These designs are perfectly presented in printed and plain bright fabrics that are fun enough for summertime and sophisticated enough for the modern woman.

We love this silk Blouse with front pleats and wide neck band.

This slightly flared, knee-length Skirt with shaped waistband looks super sophisticated paired alongside our Three Quarter Blouse.

Every woman need a little Shift Dress in her wardrobe. This one is great with its decorative details and side inserts.

Breezy and light Pants like these, are a great bottom alternative for summer! These ones have large patch pockets to hold your sunglasses and lipstick with ease.

This casual Top is both lovely for day…and edgy for night with its princess panel seamlines.

This One Shoulder Maxi dress is the essence of resort wear. It blows in the breezes and flatters any woman.

Here is a lovely Jacket in bouclé with raglan sleeves, patch pockets and piping. We love it worn with these Cuffed Shorts, makes a great resort outfit!

This bright Dress would work for fancy dinners and cocktail hour near the breeze. The lovely movement is created from the pleats at the shoulder and waistline with decorative flowers.

Happy Sewing!

I’m pretty short myself so I always have to shorten… :) I think this one will be worth it, as long as it doesn’t swallow me up in fabric.

I love these! My favorite is the one-shoulder maxi. I really like the pleated blouse, too. That would be perfect for work!

Love the first blouse with the pin tucks, and the purple dress (minis the perplexing pom poms) will be on my list of things to make. I feel like the other items are a bit ho-hum and wouldn’t suit me, plus I don’t like jackets without a collar or pants without a waist band, and I’d never wear an asymmetrical dress :).

I personally don’t expect to like every pattern in every magazine, and enjoy picking out the things that suit me – as long as there are a couple of things I will make its still value for money! I also love seeing the kooky designs occasionally (anyone for scuba diving?) as long as there is something for everyone!

I love these patterns as well but I also have some shoe envy: does anyone know who designed the shoes worn with the Bright Dress?

Great one shoulder dress. Perfect for our hot Okanagan weather. I could totally wear this as I eat at a bistro in one of our wineries. The pants are perfect too!

I, like many others, like this collection as I have found beautiful and interesting pieces in most of Burda’s offerings. I spend loads of time between the UK and the US so I get to see the fashions in both places and even if there are pieces that I don’t like the styling of, it’s okay, because usually with a change in fabric or notions or grading up or down, I find I can create something I like that suits me. I don’t understand some of the negativity about the styling or the sizes. MegH just offered a webinar on pattern grading. I have often had to grade patterns to suit someone. It’s a great skill to have and if you can’t find something you like in a collection, as it is, then make it a challenge to yourself to turn it into something you like. It builds your skills as a sewist and keeps things intriguing! Happy sewing all.
