I have had my kenmore sewing machine for 6 years. Doesn’t work well and needs repairs that are costly, and gets hot. Scared it will start a fire if used too long. I do have a husquvana viking that is like 40+ years old. Very heavy to lugg around and doesn’t make a nice straight sew line. I have had it in for reapairs and they always wanted to sell me something new and said they can’t do anything more for the machine. It is the way it is going to be.

My first sewing machine was a Singer antique… the one I learned on with my grandmother. It had one stitch, and no reverse, but the machine sure was pretty. I still have it, but it doesn’t work.

How long have you had your sewing machine? I have had my first sewing machine for about 20 years and it is a singer 1959 zig zag. It actually stopped working last week, which made me very sad.

    Are you the first owner?

    No, I am not.

I have had my sewing machine for one year and one month, it is actually my husbands so I am now co-owner of it since we got married! Before that I borrowed my mom’s or my sister’s and I made my first quilt when I was 20. :o)

I’ve had my Singer zig-zag portable machine for 40 years or since 1968. I learned how to sew on that machine and am self-taught. I’ve created ballet costumes for Boston Ballet, also for their subsidized ballet programs without patterns. I’ve learned how to do some tailoring, make prom gowns, work with difficult fabric, etc. All of my children’s clothes and most of my own were made on that machine in the early years.

I love my Singer machine – it even repaired my son’s sail on his boat. After that, however, it just never seemed to be the same and needed some major repairs. It is still pretty good but a little tired.

Would love an update but will never retire my first machine.

How long have you had your sewing machine? I’ve had my sewing machine since third year college… ack! 11 years – wow – time flies. This machine has been with me through thick and thin (fabric), making a winter coat and salsa dancing dresses to now making a quilt for my parents anniversary. Are you the first owner? This machine was handed down to me by my grandmother, Marion.

I started sewing on my grandmothers sewing machine with 12 years, a Singer from the 50ties. One day at the age of 16 I got the sewing machine of my grandgrandmother, also a Singer from 1900, when she died. Since 2 years I have my own Singer sewing machine.

My first sewing machine was a Singer featherweight that was originally owned by my grandmother. So I guess I am the second owner, it is beautiful (black with gold trim, metal bobbins and the original grease tube). So, if I had to estimate the length of ownership – um it has probably been about 28 years!

I got my first sewing machine ten years ago with some money left to me when my grandma passed away. I still have it and use it every now and then—it definitely needs a check up, but it’s a work horse! I was absolutely not the first owner—I think I was the third, possibly the fourth. It’s an old Singer from the 40’s with the little cogs you stick in the top to do embroidery stitches.

How long have you had your sewing machine? I have only had my sewing machine since this February (my grandmother gave it to me as a half birthday present because she forgot my real one) but it is from the 70’s and its really messed up! The pedal is VERY temperamental and only works from time to time.

Are you the first owner? Obviously, because the sewing machine is older than me I am not the first owner. My great-great aunt Ruth gave it to me when she had to move to a retirement home, she gave my family many items, the sewing machine. It’s super old and I could really use a new one. =)

My current sewing machine (Bernina 1230) I have had about a year. I absolutely love it and it goes through anything I put it through. The older mechanical metal case Bernina’s simply are the best! I am not the first owner of the machine, but I received it in good shape and I keep it in good condition with regular cleanings. Its my ‘baby’ and I love it!

I had my first sewing machine in 1986 and its been in use constantly ever since, dressmaking, craft making and used for working towards my textile degree, it has also been used to stitch some very diverse and unusual materials, fine metals, metal threads, soluble fabrics, paper, photographs, leaves and all sorts, it must be very sturdy to endure the amount of work I have done on it, it’s a Toyota and also does 32 different stitches.

I have had my first owned sewing machine for one year now, It’s a brother and easy to use. I love sewing and hope to make it a full time home based business one day, instead of an office job full time. If I have two machines I can dedicate more time in sewing and teach others how to sew too.

Actually my first sewing machine was my fingers… I have owned them for nearly 60 years. I learned to use an electric machine on my mother’s Singer during the 50’s and 60’s. Once I left home I purchased a “Free” treadle sewing machine. I loved it and all of the attachments that came with it. I sure wish that the machine companies would include those now. There were hemmers ranging from 1/4" to 2", rufflers, pleaters, you name it it was there. Well the “Free” went by the wayside when someone broke the shuttle carrier for me. No internet back then so had to do without. Then I purchased an old portable Universal machine. It worked ok until I traded it in for U-Joints for my car. My husband bought me the machine I use now back in 2000. It is a great little machine but I long for one with more decorative stitches and features. I had to give up gardening, cycling, sculpting, painting and everything else I enjoyed back in 2002 after an auto accident so now all I have to keep my mind alert is my pc and sewing machine. Free motion embroidery is about the closest I get to painting now days. I sure would love to have a fancy machine like the CONFIDENCE 7467 to play around with. Maybe Santa will be good to me this year? I sure hope so.
