I started sewing because it amazed me that my grandmother could take a piece of cloth and a picture and make anything on a treadle machine. I continued sewing because it was the only way I could have clothes fit my long, lanky frame (in the 70’s-80’s, everything ready made was for the average). When my kids were born, I returned to sewing for their costumes and for originality…all the kids clothes in the 90’s were cookie cutter. I now sew for pleasure and profit.

My life is all about helping other people in another country. I am a volunteer in China. I find inspiration everywhere around me. I find it in the small things and the large. I am inspired by the challenge it is to create with very few resources. I am daily inspired to create… be it from the little orange breasted bird outside my window, the high piles of harvested rice plants, or the traditional clothing of this amazing new world I find myself in everyday! I’m afraid when I get home I’ll need a new source of inspiration… so this magazine subscription would be an amazing source!

Several things, the satisfaction of completing a project, making things that look and fit the way I want them to, all the amazing fabrics that out there and seeing what can be done, and seeing what others have made encourages me to try new things

I began to sew because the clothes I wanted to wear couldn’t be found in the stores… now I can make my dreams become reality. I’m especially inspired by vintage and historical fashions, like the nineteen-fifties and 18th/19th century styles!

Things that inspire me to sew: self-imposed deadlines from beginning of the month planning sessions; media presentations from books, magazines, blogs; wanting to become closer to Ruby, my sewing machine; dreams

I love the feeling I get when I have finished sewing something either for myself or someone else and they (or I) love it. The thought that this piece is one of a kind because of a slight variation to the pattern or simply the fabric I chose inspires me to keep sewing and creating. Also the fact that there are so many pretty things out there that I can’t afford to buy!! So I’ll try to make it myself :)

I’m inspired by beautiful fabric, and the opportunity to wear something different than what you find in the stores. Other peoples creations are a great source of inspiration and seeing what you all come up with makes me want to get better!

Things that inspire me to sew: - Creating a garment with a better fit than I can ever get with RTW clothes; - All the beautiful textiles in the world – I can spend hours wandering around a fabric shop; - The joy I get from the whole creative process – it relaxes me and gives me so much satisfaction knowing that I made a wonderful object from a flat piece of fabric.

I get inspired by looking at everything that surrounds me; nature, people, everyday things – conversations, interaction between other human beings. And sewing is an amazing way of expressing the feelings that occur as a result of all this inspiration! Playing with materials, textures, colours, structures etc. – and having fun while doing it! :)

I’m inspired by fabric. Beautiful patterns, I’m like a magpie when it comes to colours. Most of it would look shocking on me, but I love my fabric collection and occassionally I’ll find the right piece for the right fabric.

So many things inspire me to sew. I find the creativity of others inspiring as well as the mood set by specific events. I’m inspired to sew if something conjures up strong emotions in me. :) Movies do this. And music.

My passion for learning & creating. Every project I embark on poses a new set of challenges & I love the sense of satisfaction when I’ve overcome those challenges & produced something that I love.

It’s fair to say this doesn’t happen every time I sew, there are those challenges that get the better of me, but the projects that work definately make up for any that don’t.

Sewing relaxes me. I take great pleasure in creating a wonderful item of clothing from a simple flat piece of fabric. The happiness my loved family members get when I sew something for them, gets tucked away in my happy memories.
