Although relatively new at sewing, I dared flaunting my creations at work – one of which was a very cute Burda maternity jumper. Many of my co-workers felt inspired to get creative and one of them subsequently enrolled in a sewing class.

Yes! A bunch of us 40-something girls did our annual get-to-gether at my home this year. I taught them how to make simple pillows for gifts. Two weeks later, my, “I’ll never sew!” friend made 25+ pillows for Christmas. I’m so proud of her. She wants to learn more so we’re planning our bi-annual craftaganza in a few months!

Yes…three young mothers with a collective total of six children. I actually went with two of them to beginning sewing classes (even tho I’ve been sewing since age 5) so I could see the new fun and excitement thru their eyes. It did not disappoint!

Yes, indeed! My husband was inspired to make his own pajama pants. A friend was inspired to get over her fear of her sewing machine. I am always encouraging when it comes to do-it-yourself things. Hopefully more people than I can think to list right now have been inspired.

No, but i was inspired by my friend who could whip out cute dresses soooo quick. Cute bag! I could see me using it for a variety of storage for my craft projects and shopping too.

I have. As a sewing instructor, one of the perks is watching the joy on the face of the little ones as they realize that sewing is something they want to do for the rest of their lives.

Since I started sewing my boyfriend has been taking far more interest in his and my clothing, to the extent that he’s now trying to make a waistcoat for himself.

One of the things that makes me happiest is when people find out that I made a garment, and comment that they want to get back into sewing. Whether or not it has actually ever happened-who knows?!

I’m not sure. My sister took up sewing shortly after I did. Not sure if it had anything to do with me, though.

I’ve taught my children and grandchildren. Someday, maybe even great grandchildren. I also collect sewing machines at yard sales for the 4-h and scout kids. Anyone who wants a machine, I try to provide one.

I taught my niece to sew about 15 years ago. She enjoyed it when she was at my house but it really didn’t stick. Now she is ready to sew again so more lessons are coming.

I taught a friend how to sew using a simple dress from Goodwill that we hemmed and took in so she could wear it as a top.

My niece asked for a sewing machine for her 10th birthday and asked me to teach her how to sew. She did a great job making a little top and pants and kept sewing, even making her prom dress from her own pattern! I’ve inspired a few friends and encouraged them to join Sewing Rebellion, which was started by Frau Fiber in Chicago to teach people to sew for free and encourage groups of people of different levels of skill to learn from each other. There are several chapters in other cities – 2 in Los Angeles where I live.

I made a quilt for a friend that my sister—who has never made a quilt—decided to copy for her sister-in-law. I suppose I have inspired my daughter—she has lots of ideas but isn’t quite old enough to sew on her own,
