I’ve certainly been inspired to sew after seeing what friends and other people have sewn. I think some of my sewing is inspiring commission work as a friend wants me to make a few things for her.

I’ve inspired my roommate to learn practical sewing skills. Every time we go shopping, she’ll try something on and reject it for a small reason. I’m always the one standing there telling her a quick hem would make it perfect, and so I’ve started teaching her how to do that.

I have tried to encourage my sister to start sewing, but she hasn’t quite gotten into it yet. Maybe sometime in the future she will be a bit more interested…

I am the go to person when a friend wants to learn to sew. I have taught many of my friends and family. I always enjoy it because it forces me to articulate the process step by step. It’s very satisfying watching the people you teach grow.

Teaching my children (2 girls and a boy – now artistic, creative adults) to sew was an unquestionable rite of passage. They all gained their sewing machine drivers licenses by the time they were 7 years old. They all loved sewing simple garments and toys for themselves. They still do!

Yes, my daughter has become a very good seamstress. She has even made her own riding breeches and digitzed an embroidery design for lab coats at work.. My son has sewn a little, but isn’t motivated at all.

Have I ever inspired someone to pick up sewing? Its a tough question, I know that the things I have sewn have received comments such as, " I wish I knew how to sew," or “You’re so creative!” etc. and to me I hope that, that would be inspiring enough, to see the simple things that can be done with needle and thread..if I haven’t inspired anyone..there’s still hope! :D

No, definitely not! I have just started sewing myself and am pretty bad at it. If anything, I have probably inspired people NOT to start sewing. :)

I don’t think so, I’m just a beginner, inspired by what others can do.

Not yet! Although a friend and I had a sewing session (actually two) over the holiday break, and she’s never sewn anything since her home-ec class. So I suppose that counts. Perhaps :)

Yes, I think I have! At least I like to think that I have. I showed this website to my best friend a while back, and she got really excited about it.

Yes, several of my friends and daughters of friends say that I got them interested in and started sewing. It feels great to know that I’ve (re)introduced them to the joys of sewing!

I’ve taught my son to sew and crochet, since they’re both good rainy day activities. And I inspired a co-worker to make a quilt for her daughter when she graduated to a big-girl bed and the baby quilt I’d had made for her was too small to cover it. I’m always offering to teaching my family and co-workers how to sew. I tell them that mastering even to most basic of sewing skill will help them maintain their clothes.

I think so! I am new-ish at sewing and all my projects got my future mother-in-law to take it up again. She is much more experienced than me, but she hadn’t sewn in a while.
