Dresses! Perfectly fitted. Perfectly finished. And uniquely designed for my clients. But no matter what, I always say, “it’s the fabric that makes the dress!” And yes, I do say it with an exclamation mark.

My current favorite thing to make is clothing for my granddaughter. I had 4 sons, and sewed for them when they were young enough … but there’s something so wonderful about sewing for a granddaughter.

My top favorites in order: Dresses, skirts, bags, pet toys. If I’m working on a particularly difficult dress, I’ll take a break to clear my brain and make a couple squeaky toys for either my cats or dogs.

Right now it has to be doll clothes for my daughter. Not only are they adorable and not terribly fussy (dolls don’t care so much about a perfect fit), but adorable fat quarters of quilting fabric go really far in making a great outfit, too!

It’ll have to be dresses. It’s way more fun to make something you know you’ll like for a special occasion instead of spending hours shopping and finding nothing that fits!

I love making dresses from the 30 and 40s, I make them a modern print but keep the over all style the same, then I love dresses for little girls, aprons from all ages 16th century to now. I really do not have real favorites. I pick a pattern and do a couple articles of clothing and then move to another pattern, but I will have to say making your own dresses is just so much fun and when somone comes up to you and asks were you got that dress, it is fun to say “I made it”.

I like to make skirts. Skirts are simple to sew and it is easy to change the design, like adding pockets or changing the length.

Blouses. I am lying, it is dresses, but I am trying to make myself want to sew more blouses since I am a compulsive skirt buyer (especially vintage wool ones) and my skirt to blouse ratio is way off!
