Skirts, they are easy and fast. The other day I did a circular skirt for my little daughter in 40 mins, It had no embellishments but served the purpose of having a red skirt for an event.

Clothes for myself that fit well are the most satisfying, although purses, bags, etc made as gifts are also very rewarding.

Like so many others, I like to make dresses. I rarely make them for myself, but I like creating what could constitute an entire look at once.

Making gifts is my favorite sewing: table runners; infinity scarves; kids’ toys; baby gifts. It’s a two-way pleasure: theirs in receiving, and mine in giving.

My favorite thing to make are skirts, because it allows for the greatest creativity with the least amount of fabric. With just under two yards of fabric you can decided how wide you want the waistband, between a 1" , 1.5" hemline, pockets or no pockets….the possibilities are endless for such a basic item.

There is nothing I like better than making little girls dresses. They are allowed more lattitude fashionwise than adults, and I can paint the canvas in bright colors with lots of ruffles and layers.

My favorite thing to sew are dresses. I have only done a Missy Dress for my basic sewing class and didn’t really like the style, e.g., long sleeve, cuffs with plackets, two pockets, collar. I would love to make bias-cut, draped, plus-size dresses that enhance the wearer’s self-esteem!

I like to make button down short sleeve shirts for my son. The pattern is simple and the inside of the collar is made cleanly, there are no sleeve cuffs to fuss over. It only takes 1 yard too. Most of all, he looks good in it.

Little sleeveless tops are my favorite, they’re so quick and rewarding, and also a nice way to try out fabric or techniques on a smaller scale. I also like making accessories for the same reasons, but lately all I’ve made has been utilitarian household stuff; not too exciting but it’s nice to make things that get used a lot, like reusable shopping and produce bags.

I love making summer dresses. Cotton is so easy to work with, and they’re also my favorite thing to wear!

If I could choose one outfit to make again and again, that would be dress. And more specifically, from vintage or vintage inspired patterns. The more fitted the waist and fuller the skirt the better. And it has a crinoline,I am in heaven. Even if it’s taking a lot of space in my closet…

My favorite garment to make has always been dresses. I just love using the opportunity to wear them to be super girly and stylish. I kind of find that they are becoming a lost form of clothing, most women that I know just wear pants now and dresses are used only for special occasions. I refuse to let them go the way of the hat!

I’m on a jacket/coat kick right now. My son plays hockey so I love to line coats with faux fur for the best feeling coats. We don’t really have winter where I currently live so jackets work all winter long so I can wear as many different ones as I want. The details, the different fabrics allow me to be as creative as I want to be. And, from a wearable art perspective, the jacket can be a blank canvas. If I’m going to do all that work, I want the world to see it. Other types of garments don’t always allow the same level of artistic freedom.

Pants and jackets are my favorite, partly because I get a lot of use out of them and partly because I prefer working with thicker, heavier fabrics.

My favorite thing to make is doll clothes. Not Barbie or American Girl type stuff, but fashions-in-miniature. One of my doll fashions was even purchased by a museum. Why do I sew them? I love the challenge! When miniaturizing, the first thing you realize is that you can’t sew it the same way as a full size fashion….so you have to basically re-think how it will go together. Bulk in seams is a miniaturist’s greatest enemy and I have enjoyed finding ways to defeat my enemy so that the seams in my miniatures lay flat and are concealed. Getting my miniaturized fashions to look like their full size counterparts…..that’s my passion!
