Spring has sprung and it’s all about floral print and light fabrics! This new pattern collection from burda style magazine’s May 2013 issue has gotten us thinking about the nice weather and bright colors that come with spring. Check out the new styles!

This summer Poncho in cotton lace fabric exudes a relaxed southern feeling. Even beginners can successfully sew it, and wear it over your favorite swimsuit!

This open, solid-color Jacket with patch pockets creates a calm contrast to any pair of bottoms.

This Lace Floral Top is easy to sew, and makes a huge impact. Two shirts in one – a short one in jersey and a longer on in tulle lace are sewn together at the bateau neckline. A glimpse of the tummy makes this a great beach, or going out top!

Whether at the local pool or in a luxury resort, you’ll be a real hit in this 50s’ style Retro Bikini. Narrow lace trim decorates both the knotted top with its wide, shaped straps and the bottom with elastic waist and mini bows.

This open Jacket with its wide shaped band is both casual and romantic! The two layers of batiste, sewn as one, add a real touch of sophistication.

Comfortable for short breaks, this straight-cut Sweat Top is lined with a lace top which peeps out at the edges of hem and sleeves. The neck is embellished by a sewn-on lace triangle.

Happy Sewing!

A bit dull. Why would I want to recreate a Target t shirt and cover up? Even if a stretch my imagination with material use, these are dull silhouettes.

Not inspired…no shape, and the lace seems out of place on the garments. And the jacket looks like an oh-so-popular cardigan from 4 years ago…

Pick me to be your model. I’m 63 and have been sewing all my life. I gave up buying Burda in 2012 as the styles were so sacklike. I want to look feminine, disguise my rounding stomach and feel inspired by their magazine. These beautiful models would look gorgeous in anything. Try putting this ‘collection’ on me and display the photo to sell your patterns. I am 36 bust 29 waist and 39 hip. Those low slung, skimpy shorts to go with the tops would look hilarious.

Agree, underwhelming. Squares are not flattering.

Those tops are so unflattering. The cardigans are alright but these are not very inspiring patterns.

Agreed – the mixing of surfaces is bold, takes creative courage to go that route, love it!

Disappointing. This is not the fashion Burda is famous for. No inspiration! I look forward to the New Burda every month, but this month I will leave it on the store shelf. I look forward to new and original patterns from an European leader not this! Walmart is more or less already carrying these patterns. Zero interest. Keep up with Vogue, not Walmart.

Yeah underwhelmed. Bring back clean simple sophisticated lines, Burda!

I’d love to figure out how to make that bikini out of swimsuit material. The top, esp it so cute :)
