Buttons are an essential design tool in every sewer’s toolbox. From functional closures to antique decorative finishes, the options for embellishing and designing with buttons are endless. We want to see how you use buttons beyond the basics. A row of colorful or vintage buttons can totally change the look of a garment!

This contest is all about using buttons to transform and inspire your sewing. Enter any sewing project featuring buttons to enter the Ultimate Button Lovers Sewing Contest, then vote on your favorite! Entries are now open, so get those projects uploaded! Submissions close 8/31, and voting will start 9/1. The winner will receive a $350 gift basket from ButtonLovers.com (image below). Please note, you must use the entry form to submit your project.

You can find lots of patterns spotlighting buttons on BurdaStyle.com. The Sailor Shorts have rockabilly style that’s accented by a row of buttons on each hip. You could use anchors for a playful vintage costume, or keep it black and white for a more modern look.

We’re also looking for buttons used in unexpected and inspiring ways. Think embellishments, unexpected placement, or brilliant color.

Buttons are used to a sweet effect in the Tie Skirt. This design takes the Tie Skirt from avant garde to vintage girly girl. Buttons are a great way to add visual interest if you don’t want to commit to a loud print. Over the trendy color? Just snip them off and replace with a new style! This updated version pairs adorably with the Bustier Top, also shown with added button detail.

This sounds awesome! My only question is is there a limited number of entries? I mean, can one member have more than one entry?

OMG! This is right up my alley. I first started to sew aprons as gifts for my nieces & friends. I used vintage buttons from my childhood dresses my mom made.

    I gotta try this!
