Mix & Match April Issue Patterns

Hi BurdaStylers! This year we are only releasing a couple of our Flagship kits that contain ALL the digital patterns from a specific issue, and April 2016 is one of the special issues. We just launched our April Flagship Kit which is personally my favorite issue so far this year (I know, I know there have only been 4). I thought it would be fun to pull my favorite styles from this issue and mix & match patterns from various collections to create some nice spring outfits.

What We Want To Make: The Bomber Jacket

The athletic jacket, also known as a bomber jacket or blouson jacket, has been a wardrobe staple for years in both men and women’s closets. It mixes masculine and feminine styles and can be made in a variety of fabrics including shiny satin, mixed and matched prints or even a heavier wool. We’ve rounded up our favorite athletic jacket styles from high-end fashion designers as well as our own BurdaStyle patterns that you can make yourself!

Happy Monday BurdaStylers! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend. I’m very excited to share with your our latest (and final) look debut for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother. Ty was inspired by this look from the Tommy Hilfiger show at New York Fashion Week, and I was happy to bring it to life for her using a BurdaStyle dress pattern that I modified and three different Brother machines! Read on to see how I started to make Ty’s look.

Sweet Dresses for Easter Sunday

All week, friends and coworkers have been talking about what they are doing and what they will be wearing on Easter Sunday. It’s one of those holidays that makes me excited because it means warm weather and a wardrobe change-up is on the way. Here is Colorado we’re just recovering from a foot of snow that fell in less than 12 hours but if you live somewhere with a more forgiving spring climate then please break out your sunniest Easter dress for all of us who can’t. Here are six BurdaStyle dress patterns that are both modest yet cheery, perfect for brunch with the family on Easter Sunday.

Globetrotter Style

This spring we’re looking forward to at least looking like we’ve spent the cold winter traveling around the world wearing colorful clothes from of far off countries. In reality, we’ve really picked up some great fabric and sewn them up ourselves! Here is some globetrotting wardrobe inspiration to excite your next sewing project. Don’t be afraid to pair multiple pieces together to form an eclectic outfit that says your passport has more than a few stamps in it.

Runway to Reality with Brother: Ali's Look

Hi BurdaStylers, I’m so excited to share with you the look I made for Burda’s own Ali! This outfit is very much her style, and she was inspired by a look down the runway from designer Lela Rose at New York Fashion Week. For this look I made both the top and skirt from BurdaStyle patterns and using Brother sewing machines. I can’t believe this is already our fourth look debut for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother, and only 1 more to go before the look book reveal! Read on to see how I prepped and started to make Ali’s look.

St. Patrick's Day Style All Year Round!

Hi BurdaStylers, and Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I do love this day because 1. I’m from Irish heritage, and 2. Green is my favorite color (and I look great wearing it with my red hair). I once had a motto “Dress up like every day is St. Patrick’s Day”, since I love to wear green. Although I don’t wear it as much as I used to, I still love the color and every shade of it whether it be kelly, emerald, or limegreen. I have pulled some of my favorite sewn in green patterns and styled them in outfits that I would totally wear!

Runway to Reality with Brother: Denise's Look

Happy Monday BurdaStylers! Today we bring you Denise’s look that she sewed for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother. Last week we debuted Nadia’s look that Denise also made for us, so we are happy to showcase her blazer inspired by the Calvin Klein show at New York Fashion Week. Read on to see more about this look and how it was created using Brother machines!

Jean Styles to Wear & Make

Denim jeans are a closet staple and when you have that perfect pair, life nearly feels complete. Designer jeans can be pricey, while tailored jeans can be even pricier so we recommend stretching your sewing skills and making your own. Don’t be scared, we’re hear to (sort of) hold your hand through the process!

Sew the Trends: London & Milan Fashion Week, Fall '16

As one would imagine, the looks that walked down the runway in London and Milan the past few weeks were much darker and heavier overall than what we saw in New York. Two of the main trends we saw in several shows was the surplus of sequins and velvet, these two fabrics will be mainstays for day and night this year. Things to make now? Bow front blouses, sequin everything, velvet shorts and flowing midi dresses. Things to make later? Dramatic statement capes, monochromatic hounds tooth suits, long sleeve velvet dress and outrageously large coats.

Take a look at the top seven trends we saw walk the London and Milan runways and that we can’t wait to start making now and later!

Runway to Reality with Brother: Meg's Look

Introducing our first look reveal for our Runway to Reality look book with Brother! The look book will be available at the beginning of April, and leading up to the launch we are debuting the looks along with our prep work. The sewing tutorial images with Brother machines will be in the look book so you can easily follow along and sew these looks yourself from New York Fashion Week. This first post is my look, so read on to see how I transformed our Long Sleeve Sheath Dress into a dress inspired by this look from the Proenza Schouler show.
