A straight stitch in a color matching the fabric; used on garment edges such as necklines and hems, where it helps to keep facings in place. It can also be in a contrast color and used as decoration to bring attention to seams and style lines.
A tip for more professional-looking topstitching is to use a slightly longer stitch length than what you would use for seaming- a stitch length of around 3-and-a-half tends to look best.
