Stretching can be necessary to shape a garment, e.g. the shorter edge of a section must be stretched to be joined to the longer edge of another section; this will be indicated on the sewing pattern pieces To pre-stretch, steam-iron the edge while pulling it to the desired length. It’s a good idea to do a trial run on a fabric remnant first!
