Rayon is the first non-synthetic “manufactured” fiber. It has been referred to as “artificial silk” due to its luxurious sheen and lustre.
Made from cellulosic pulp, it takes on properties similar to cotton and linen. It can also be made to look like wool.
It is not a natural fiber, and it is not a synthetic. Basically, recycled fiber lint is chemically treated then re-manufactured similar to synthetic fibers.
Some positive qualities include:
Softness of hand
Blendable with other fibers
Vivid color or ability to accept dyes
Low wet strength
