A coarse yet dense woollen fabric of Tyrolean origin. As it has been thickened by fulling and felting, it is therefore wind and water resistant as well as hardwearing. There are two types: knitted loden ( which has a rough surface with the pile hairs (nap) laid in one direction) and cloth loden with a matted felt surface.
