Usually a non-woven fabric which is available in varying weights, that is used to stiffen fabric and strengthen seams or to keep the fabric from stretching out of shape. It is often placed between the lining and the outer fabric. It can be made from yarns, or directly from fibers, it can be woven or knitted. Some are designed to be fused or adhered with heat from an iron, while others are to be stitched into the fabric.
