A button is a small disc- or knob-shaped object which is attached to cloth or an article of clothing in order to secure an opening, or it is used for ornamentation.
Buttons are no longer just used for fastening/closure – they have long since become a fashionable accessory as the right button adds the icing on the cake! Buttons can be made from mother of pearl, wood, porcelain, ivory, glass, pumice, leather, horn, thread, metal and many synthetic substances. Nearly all of these materials can be dyed and or formed into any particular shape because buttons are no longer always round!
