So I forgot all my formal dresses at home when my friend asked me to go to his fraternity's formal-- so I needed to come up with something to wear. I went to Goodwill one Sunday morning and this red dress was squeezed between a bunch of frumpy smocks. For the black flowers I bought this extra-large size 20 velveteen dress and cut it up and glued the flowers to the dress. Check out my blog for more DIY: http://www.starsforstreetlights.blogspot.com
Any type of fabric, I used this velveteen fabric, it was amazing!

I think this is lovely and very individual (in the good way not as in “individual”). I love the way that you rescued an ordinary red dress and made it into something different by just adding to it. It is definately very unique and I certainly haven’t seen anything like it before so well done you! Isn’t fashion supposed to be about expression and showing something new? That is too cool!! Looks very high-fashion, too, quite the dramatic dress.

That is stunningly gorgeous! I love red, most of my cloths are blindingly bright red. It’s sort of my “signature color”, LOL! If it was me I’d sew the flowers instead of gluing. I love this dress though. It’s very saloon girl. I may make one like it, only long and with a ruffled underskirt.

The flowers are great, thanks for the idea. The look of your finished dress is high contrast and extroverted. Others may opt for a more subdued tone on tone look. (Red flowers on red dress for example…or black flowers on black dress). Regardless, I like this a lot!

Why should she care what others think? I don’t. I’m a Life Actor – that means I wear CosPlay 24/7. People are always stopping to ask why I’m wearing a costume. My answer: What costume? I’m not wearing a costume. These ARE my daily cloths.
Man! This dress is actually way too “normal” for me, that’s why I said I’d make it floor length with a ruffled skirt. :) LOL!
