With the thread tightly against the needle, lower the presser foot and give one stitch with the handwheel. The thread should be caught in this stitch. Now, raise the presser foot, and bring the right side tail of the thread around the front of the needle, sending both ends of the thread into the long tube. When you get to the next corner, repeat.
