Thanks for the tutorial. How much larger does the fabric need to be if using a normal top pattern? Say you wanted to shirr the back of a top pattern, how much bigger would the pattern piece need to be. ?

Great tutorial! Thanks! Btw, you and I have the same iron! It was so cheap, but it has been great! I’ve had it for 7 years now with not a single problem. I think it’s made by Hamilton Beach? :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! ive been wondering also how to do this. I was just going to experiment but now I don’t have to waste fabric and thread. Plus I didnt know spraying it and ironing made that big of a difference. Thanks again you explain things very simply so that it doesnt seem like such an ordeal to create things. THANK YOU!!!!!!

I have to repair a shirred top sundress. Only one or two rows came undone. How would I repair just these two rows? When sewing would I pull the fabric straight?

Excellent tutorial! I never knew shirring was so easy. How much extra fabric do you recommend for this?

Yay – a friend told me how easy this was and now I actually believe her! Just one question, the cotton for the top thread is normal cotton and the bottom only has the elastic thread??

LOVE!!!! i have almost bought some pretty awful material just because it was pre-smocked- now I won’t be tempted- I’ll do it myself !!! Not to mention being able to mend the shirred dresses I own which have lost elastic and loosened up.
