For instance, if you had made a simple, knee length skirt with a side zipper, and no center back seam, but you decided you wanted a center back slit. For this demonstration, the green fabric represents the skirt, and the navy blue fabric represents the slit facing.

What a good idea, especially when you discover too late that your new skirt “hobbles” you. From the pictures it seems to me that you do the slit before the hem, so for a skirt that didn’t work you’ll probably have to take out part of the hem before you add the new slit. Not too much trouble to save a skirt!
