I tried hemming using zig-zag stitches the usual way, but encountered some problem with softer fabric. It tends to bunch up and made the edges really ugly. So I thought of sewing the zig-zag stitches over a fold to give the fabric a little more weight under the needle. It worked beautifully , In the picture, a lighter coloured thread is used. The raw edges will be concealed totally .

    That is exactly the case with sergerless hemming! The zigzag stitch gives your stiches more motion. I learned that last week when sewing my halloween costume. Zigzag is the only way to go with spandex or stretchy material, but it never would have thought to transfer that information to hemming! Thanks for the lightbulb. <3
