You now have a clean finish to your seam. You'll probably find you like this technique best when you have two or four seams in a garment, and your fabric is a firm woven. Try it sometime soon! Notions: http://www.redrockthreads.com/misc-thread/fusible-thread.asp

    Hi Ruth,

Hi again! Fusible thread is great for when you want to set a crease in your fabric but you don’t want any bulky, permanent machine stitching. It works well for narrow hems. It’s great if you’re making a scalloped hem. Some people use it to “thread trace” an appliqué before they apply it to a garment or tote bag. You can find it in better fabric and notions stores in the U.S., and by Web order. I’ve never looked in any of our “big box” chain fabric stores (Jo Ann Fabrics, Hancock Fabrics) to see if they carry it. If your trip doesn’t happen soon and you would like to test this thread, let me know and I’ll put some in the mail to you.

Interesting about the fusible thread. I have heard of it before but didn’t know what it was for. I don’t think they sell it where I live. If I go to the States (I am planning to go soon), I’ll see if I can get my hands on some. Then I’ll try to persuade my local haberdasher’s to order it and sell it!
