Back to the iron now. Use the tip of your iron to gently part those tiny seam allowances and press them open. I find using a sort of wiggling motion with my iron helps with this. Now, could you do this step before you trim off the seam allowances? Yes, but I have found I don't get good, even results when I try to trim the seam allowances after the seam has been pressed open. My seam allowances are exactly 1/8".
