Make a few pleats as shown in picture, about 1cm tucked underneath 2cm's of fabric and so on. Iron to make it easier to begin pleating.

Thanks so much for putting this up – I have been thinking about how I would like to do something like this and incorporate into projects and have been tossing up ideas as to how best to do this in my mind. This simple way is so much better that what I was coming up with! I haven’t actually seen your dress – so I will definitely check it out.
