Pin the layers together along the stitching line.
I use pins in a perpendicular-parallel-parallel way to prevent the layers from moving either side-to-side or forward-and-back. Such close pinning is only necessary if your fabric is slippery, very stretchy, or you are not very familiar with sewing knits.
