Turn the edges of the facing fabric under and fellstitch them to the welts. At each end of the slit, use your needlepoint to shape the fabric into a rectangle. Use a few more tiny stitches to protect the corners and make them square. That’s it! Now the only thing you need to do is remove the basting that kept the buttonholes closed and add buttons.
