Now decide how wide you want the bias tape to be, and if you want single-fold or double-fold.

For single-fold: Let's say I want it to be 1" wide. I add .5 inch for the edges to be pressed under. (1.5) then I multiply that number by 1.5 (or the square root of 2, if you want to be really exact). That gives me a number of 2.25. However, I usually round up to the nearest .5 inch to make measuring easier. Final measurement: 2.5 inches

For double fold: Say I want it to appear 1" wide. Multiply that by 2 (2"), then add .5" for the edges to be pressed under (2.5"). Then multiply by 1.5 and round up to the nearest .5". Final measurement: 4 inches.

Here are the simple formulas without all the words:

single fold = (x + .5)1.5 round to the next .5

double fold = (2x + .5)1.5 round to the next .5
