It seems like the trick you used was to sew closer to the fold, and to make the hem narrow. That makes sense. My circle skirt pattern, however, calls for a 2/3 inch seam allowance. Is there a way to prevent gathers while sewing circle hems? Do you ever cut notches in the fabric?

But I don’t understand how this is different from normal hemming… Won’t you get extra fabric because the fabric you’re folding up is more that the fabric that is there?
