Okay so the other way you can do this is:

1) Fold bias tape in half, wrong sides together. Match the raw edges of the folded bias tape to the raw edge of the RIGHT side of neckline. Sew a 1/4" seam around the neckline.

2) Press the bias binding and the seam allowances up.

3) Fold the binding over to the WRONG side just covering up the line of stitching.

4) Pin in place.

5) Stitch in the ditch from the RIGHT side catching the folded over bias tape on the back.

Hope this all made sense!

Happy Sewing!

Ah at last! This must be the way to do the neckline on the thing I’m working on at the moment! and you’ve written it in such a clear easy way to understand. It’s been keeping me awake nights trying to work out what the instructions in the Burda mag meant and led to lots of sewing, unpicking, resewing. Why couldn’t the instructions on my pattern just have said to do a french bias bind? Would have saved me so much time.

thanks for the tutorial, since I just started sewing I am completely ill informed about anything but I am so open to learning. Well, my question is why do you have a piece of cloth on your sewing machine. My machine is not really good and I noticed that it usually will damage delicate fabric, do you placed it there for the same reason?
