Pop your finished stitch sheet in your manual or your machine's cover - wherever is handy. It will make a helluva lot more sense than the little icons. Whilst this all takes time to do, you may find your mind wandering during each of the sample stitches exploring the possibilities of where and when you could use this stitch and *snap* you out of your routine!

Fantastic idea! (What a great excuse for me to play with my machine and forget about the housework.)
Recently I tried the rolled hem function on my overlocker for the first time and was blown away by how easy it was. I’d been put off by the idea that it was complicated to convert from 4 stitch overlock to rolled hemming. Just shows you should try your machines fully.

Help ma bob, I’ve just got a new machine with 245 stitches … looks like I’m going to be busy for a while. It’ll take more time to work out how to string numbers and patterns together than to actually stitch it!
I did this for my overlocker stitches so that clients could see the expected finish. I edged 4 inch squares with each stitch and put a rivet ring in the corner. These were then threaded onto a keyring.
It is much better to see the stitch for real because sometimes when you think a 3 thread overlock is enough you actually do need a 4 thread one. Also there is quite a difference in the width of some of them.
