Great idea, definitely worth trying. I always end up cutting the jeans and then have issues with fraying, you may have just solved all my problems :)

I just had to have these awesome wide leg jeans. However, they were four inches too long. I used this method and it was so easy. Thanks for posting this.

The best thing is to cut the left fabric.
There is another way to shorten jeans with original jeans hem which leaves no fabric.
Look at http://www.hobbyschneiderin.net/portal/showthread.php?t=1008"
It´s a page in German, but with lots of pictures.
I tried it, it works well.

Thanks a lot for this! It was really helpful for the new jeans I got on sale that were way too long. The only minor problem I had was that the side seams of the legs of jeans were way too thick to sew over, but I just slipstitched the small opening by hand.

If you have a lot of extra fabric that gets tucked up, you can trim it off from the inside.

I wonder if this will work with the slacks that I bought yesterday.

Wonderful! I recently hemmed a pair of jeans that I know could have been done better and with a more simple idea. This quick instruction is perfect for my ascetic dilemma.
Thanks

This looks great but what do I do with all the extra fabric? My legs are really short and there is always a lot of fabric left over.

That is totally easier than how I’ve been doing it, and looks better too! My hemmed jeans always look like, well, hemmed jeans. You can’t even tell on these! Awesome.

I have used this method, and love it, too. Two differences I do (if I read the how to right)— usually the topstitch thread from the original sewing, as it were, is a color/weight I can’t match, so I make the fold just up from the original hem, then stitch on the inside, and top stitch in the ditch on the top around the hem. I also tacking up the fold in the seamlines by stitching in the ditch along both vertical seams.

I just pulled several pairs of my jeans from my closet and I haven’t begun to hem them yet. I’m so glad I didn’t; now I can try your blind hemming method, thanks!
