if you have a long stitched line (or any length actually) you need to remove, use the seam ripper to cut the lower thread (bobbin thread), not the upper thread (the thread which comes from your needle) because the bobbin thread is less likely to break, cut after every several number of stitches to make pulling of the thread smoothly no matter how tight the stitches are.
