This was a dress made for a winter wedding at New Year. I couldn’t believe it when someone else at the wedding was also wearing a red, velvet, handmade dress in a different pattern I had only abandoned at the last minute! That was a lucky miss!!

It was my first try at using velvet, which was a challenge, but copious amounts of pins and basting got me through in the end. I’m really pleased with the results, but I could tell that the pattern was for a lighter weight fabric – the twist at the front means there’s a lot of free material hanging straight down the middle, which I might try to reduce if I try this in velvet again. The fabric was a little stretchy, so I did away with the zip.

Also, note that this pattern is a "tall’ pattern. I am very far from tall, so had to alter the pattern quite a lot to fit my measurements.
