This is one of my accessories for my collection called, “For the Pleasures of Searing Water.” The collection was for our student show this year and the theme was “The Movies.” I was inspired by the movie (And book), “Memoirs of a Geisha.” I wanted to take Geisha history and motifs and apply them with modern contemporary western fashion trends.
I wanted every model to have a ring that moved in the wind as they walked.
To achieve this I used highly concentrated watercolor to dye silk dupioni, which I then cut into cherry blossom shapes. I hot glued the petals to metal rings (You can buy ones from JoAnns that you can decorate yourself and they are finger adjustable!), then glued three jade stone beads on top. After that I liberally applied hot glue and dunked the ring into a bowl of gold beads. I moved my hand over the top to dust off loose beads and reapplied where I felt necessary.
The rings were awesome on the runway and moved delicately.
