FINALLY, I made this Vogue 8280 galaxy dress! I’ve had and loved the pattern for years (luckily, because it’s out of print now!), but never really found a good fabric. Then I bumped into this brick color 100% thin wool fabric, I think it must be suiting fabric. The dress was fun to make, not so difficult as some others have noted. The sleeves and flanges were interesting but everything was explained very well. However, I made the mistake of not making a muslin, I should have done it for such a fitted dress with lots of details. So when I tried the sleeveless dress for the first time, the bustline was gaping like crazy, more than 6 cm, nothing I could fix with a push-up bra unfortunately. Some suggested making princess seams, but I really wanted to keep the neckline clean. I solved it by taking in the side seams, the bodice seemed to be too big overall and could be graded to the waistline which was perfect.
When I was finishing this dress, the theme of the annual Holiday Party at work was announced: DC&Marvel/superheroes. I really wanted to wear this dress for the party and when my husband decided he would be Clark Kent, my decision on Lois Lane was easily made. I was wearing a ‘press pass’ and there I had my costume :)
I’m so happy I finally made this dress, I’m really proud of it.
