I decided to make a coat dress for the races this past Autumn racing carnival. Inspired by coat dresses by Dior and McQueen, I wanted it to look full and dressy, but a little bit daring at the front!

I used jacket pattern Givenchy 2486 Vogue Parish Pattern for the top and self drafted the skirt. The skirt includes a box pleated circle skirt.

The material is quite thick and heavy, kind of like a neoprene. It has a lovely geometric pattern to it. I purchased this fabric from Tessuti Fabrics in Sydney. I hand stitched snap fasteners to close the coat.

It is a really warm coat, perfect for winter, and wasn’t too difficult to make- not too bad for my first coat!
