This was one of my earliest projects to test a skirt design. Being an experiment I didn’t want to use expensive fabric so I used a new bed sheet that I found in a clearance bin. I love bedsheets since they can be an inexpensive yet quality source of fabric for sewing. Both the design and fabric turned out much better than I had expected. I’ve worn and washed the skirt for about 10 years and it is a little faded but still in good conditions. Several years after I made the skirt I began salsa dancing and discovered that the skirt looked amazing when spinning. My friend Conrad Chavez who shot the awesome photos of this skirt commented that it looked like origami in one of the shots – hence the name.
