Flared Dress with Empire Waist – New Look 6173 Easy Sew 1994

I found a great ‘vintage’ pattern to finally use up the various medium sized leftovers of lovely Malaysian batik’s my friend bought back from holiday several years ago. I was able to make this batik print-blocked/patchwork dress out of them all, but only had enough fabric yield to make the short hemmed view/model for this pattern. Instead of using normal interfacing for the button-down front, or batik as lining for the bodice, I perused some vintage cream cotton in my remnants stash (aided with a bit of fabric glue) for both. I neglected to hand stitch neither the lower bodice edge, nor the hem, opting instead to do a quick double foldover straight machine stitch down for both lol. The faux tortoise shell buttons were also from the 70s. I finally know how to use the button-hole maker/measuring foot for the machine now lol. The dress is comfy on and I only have to slip it over my head, and the ties at the back cinches’ it all in. Location: Herne Bay
