A cushion cover I created based on the monsoon rains in India. It’s monsoon time in India and the rains are coming down, so I sort of put this together on the spur of the moment!

Just thought I’d share a few facts about Indian weaving and textiles. One of the amazing facts about India is that it has over 200 weaving styles. (Unfortunately many of them are dying out!) Many of them are quite old. In fact, in a book called the Chanakya Niti written 2300 years ago by a person named Vishnu Gupta Kautilya, he speaks of Ajrakh dyes, which are still present today. Ironically, the author talks about taxation on the weaving industry! (He happened to be the Chief Minister of the emperor of the Maurya Empire – Chandragupta Maurya).
