Many times I order a fabric and the original plan goes completely out the window, which is what happened with this look. I envisioned an oversized maxi dress with a mesh cutout around the shoulder which as I type this sounds very awesome and resort. But I was in one of those moods and decided on what Chandler calls, the bumble bee :).

This beige and black striped fabric is most definitely a statement fabric with a stiffer hand and stretch, structured pieces and pieces that need volume would work great. This fabric is easy to work with, irons nicely and cuts very easily.

The top was made using vintage Butterick 5975 view A with the following alterations:

-Removed 5″ from the length of front and back

-Added a back seam

-Added 8″ to the length of the ruffle

-Added a second ruffle under the top ruffle by adding 3″ to the width of the top ruffle

-Added a 10″x17″ sleeve ruffle

The skirt was made using my drafted pencil skirt pattern

-Added a gathered 10″x90″ trumpet ruffle

-Added a 4″ waistband

-Added a 9″ side seam zipper

Chandler’s top and shorts were drafted
