My friend had a ‘heroes and villains’ themed 30th party. I’d had an extremely busy week and not had time to either buy or make a costume until a few hours before the party. At 4pm on a Saturday afternoon I wasn’t going to have time to go and buy a costume, and why would a sewist buy rather than make a costume? After doing some googling for easy ideas, I thought Sailor Moon would be a good choice: I have the long blonde hair, and her dress is fairly simple but identifiable. I looked through the scraps we had and found some thin white cotton, heavy blue jersey, and red jersey – the exact fabrics I needed! By the time I started cutting the fabric out it was 5pm (the party started at 7!), so it was a bit of a rushed job, done with no pattern. But I think it turned out pretty well.
