This is retro sheath dress 05/2013 which I’ve made previously. This is a great little pattern for a quick and stylish summer dress, which can be made up in linen or cotton sateen and finished with bling or fabric trim. I’ve downsized this time and gone down to a size 38 for a neater fit. As is usual for me, I don’t add the 4cm hem and just work with the cut length and finish from there. I shortened the back facings a little as the last time I made this it gaped a bit in this area and then I read it is good practice to make the facing a bit shorter. This seemed to work, but the style of the dress means it will gape which ever way you make the front and back. Choice of bra is important! The great thing about this style is how versatile it is to trim. I used this diamant trim and burnished silver chain I picked up in New York. Alternatively, just use folded fabric trim in a contrast. Spring flowers are optional and summer flowers, even better!
