As it was my birthday today it had to be a lollipop and it had to be Roald Dahl (one of my favourite authors)!

I am so fortunate, I live very close to the famous Roald Dahl Gallery. So I did not have to travel too far to take these fabulous photos!

I had this dress in mind for a while. I bought this pastel blue quality linen last year and I only envisaged a waist gathered dress with a white border. I added the vintage lace to define the border and add an eye-catching, tiny see-through gap.

I used the Burda Basic Bodice Sloper, modified the sleeves (they are now an in-between length, not short – not long, but a retro elbow length). The skirt is a basic rectangle 1.40 m x 2 gathered round waist. The dress closes with a zip at the back. I have added my own neck facing, which was not difficult at all, I simply cut it following the main front/back pattern.

Otherwise I kept the dress as simple as possible, clear cut lines, fun, simplistic, and youthful. It does take me back to childhood.

Accessorised with: Bead collar with front tie – Victoria & Albert Museum collection; Other mock shirt collar necklace – New Look Accessories; Neon Shoes: Stefanel. Bracelets: Hand made from fresh water pearls. Glasses: Ralph Lauren Polo.

The photographs were taken at (and around) Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
