As a grad student with multiple jobs, I don’t have much time for sewing. Since I have a hard time buying RTW clothes, top priority are things that I can wear to work and in professional settings – though it still usually takes a deadline for me to get something finished. I made this dress to wear for a presentation at a conference in Albuquerque.

The material is a thick knit, somewhere between a ponte and jersey. I don’t think this pattern photographs very well, but it drapes very nicely! I had to make several alterations to the fit; primarily, I took it in at the waist and had to adjust at the shoulders to make the waist hit at the right place. (I’m only 5’1") After that, the sleeves weren’t fitting properly into the armscyes, so I just left them off. I do prefer a sleeve and usually wear this dress with some kind of jacket or sweater, so if I make it again, I will draft my own sleeve rather than using the one from the pattern.
