This dress was made using a vintage year 1970 Simplicity #8851 pattern. My fabric is a lofty poly sweater knit with royal blue, black, and tan squiggly stripes. The pattern I used was missing its instructions, but the dress is basic enough that it was no problem to make. I substituted the pattern’s short sleeves for long bell sleeves from a modern Butterick 4230 pattern. I also resized the pattern, as it was for “Junior’s”, and I had to add in two inches horizontally across the chest to lower the bust, waist, and hip measurements. There are long French style bust darts for gentle shaping and a tab neck closure at the top of a keyhole opening over the chest. My dress is an easy wear, easy care winter favorite which doesn’t spend much time just hanging in my closet!
