After a long period of doing short-term contracts, I got offered a full-time job a few weeks back! It’s an office-based job and I’ve been at universities for the last six years, so I don’t own a lot of office appropriate clothes.
Back in November Tessuti released their new Kate Top pattern. It’s a loose fitting shell top, and is perfect to be a workwear basic. I also saw this silk fabric at Tessuti, and its soft feel and beautiful colours I couldn’t pass up, plus I knew it would be perfect for the Kate Top, so I bought the fabric and the pattern.
It was scary using the silk as I haven’t used something delicate like this before, but it wasn’t too bad. I used a size 9 needle, a lot more pins, and sewed slowly, and it all went fine. I also learnt new techniques in making self bias binding and doing the side splits, as well as using tearaway vilene.

And I think I can wear this to the office and pass as a real adult!
