This top won me over when I saw it on ‘Tessuti’ fabric site in Australia. Specifically the chosen fabrics were amazing. I couldn’t find the exact fabrics I was looking for but now I think I will make it again with other beautiful silks from bandjfabrics.
This top was massive as all the other reviews I have read. I loved the Swallow Oversize Top by BusyLizzieInBrissie!
So I started by reducing the side seams – but only at the bust area, not where the top falls around the hips/thighs. I thought I would need the largest size and more! I reduced the bust/sides area by total 3" less than the smallest size. Oversize is wonderful and comfortable, but no need for XXXXL oversize I say.
I didn’t use facing for the neckline. I made a bias, I made from crepe back satin. I need to learn to do bias binding more evenly.. i couldn’t work out which way I would use so I combined a few techniques. turned out ok.
I used french seams on the inside and this was the best way to work with the chiffon. I added 6cm for the hem to give a nice finish ‘band’ look.
I read everyone elses review about the left shoulder slipping off. I made the neckline a tiny bit smaller by wedging off the centre front piece of the left side front, so the neckline was a little bit smaller then.
Love wearing it in soft drapey fabrics.
I would like this top made with velvet binding for a rich and yet bohemian look.
