This outfit is my entry for week three of sewing competition Project Sewn. The theme was 80’s and I was inspired to make an ensemble that I could wear again as separates, to non 80’s themed events preferably.

I wanted to do this juicy floral ponte knit justice and make a pair of skinny pants with the fit and feel of leggings but look of a jean. I started with Burda 7214 and found it a great guide to use for my first attempt at ‘real’ pants…zipper fly, front & back pockets, belt loops and yoke. I tapered the legs for slimmer fit, resized and moved the back pockets (to actually sit on my butt not underneath it!) and took a huge wedge out of the back. Just for fun, I added quilted knee pads with a chevron pattern. For my peplum top I used a merino wool double knit and based it loosely on this pattern. Of course I had to add some suitably 80’s pleated sleeves and a chunky exposed metal zip at the back, for some spunk!

Check out all the entries and vote for your fav 80’s get-up at Project Sewn. And if it were mine, that would be just like, the raddest!
