A friend of a friend asked me to make her wedding gown. She felt in love with a Berta gown but could’nt afford the $8000 price tag. Here is my version.
The gown is made out if chantilly lace, underlined with 4-ply silk crepe, and lined with silk charmeuse.
The bodice is underlined and lined with silk organza to help support the weight of the appliqus and beadings. The gown has hand appliqus cut from 5 different guipure laces and hand beaded with over 2000 glass pearls of different sizes and shapes. The laces were in all different shades of whites so I had to tea dye all of them, including 9 yards of chantilly lace, to get a consistent shade of light ivory which give the gown a vintage feel. I lost tract of how many hours it took me to do the applique and beading. The hem alone, with the built-in train, requires 9 yards of lace trim which took me over 6 hours to hand applique. Needless to say the bride was very happy with the finished gown.
