I made this pirate coat for my little sister Allison’s 12th birthday in June 2010. She’s a big fan of Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean, so I decided to make her a pirate coat to play in.
I used the pattern Simplicity 3677, View A for the coat. I used a close zig-zag machine stitch to make faux buttonholes on the front of the jacket, on the cuffs on the sleeves, and on the pocket flaps. Under the pocket flaps, I sewed some home-decor fringe for extra decoration. I bought buttons in two sizes, because the store didn’t have enough in all the same size; so I used the smaller buttons on the cuffs and the larger ones on the front of the coat.
